In July 2016,I discovered that the '51 Spartan Royal Mansion at the RideoutHideout.com had been broken into by miscreants unknown.  They helped themselves to some of the meager possessions cached there, and even stole one of the several Browning Trail Cameras that was mounted by the wildlife pond to record wildlife activity.

The perps (a 74 yr old uncle and his nephew) were not aware that we have the 30 acre property "peppered" with motion-activated cameras, originally intended to capture the Carrizo Plain National Monument native wildlife to share with many fans of this amazing 250K acre sacred land.

These donated still picture and video cameras (thanks Browning!) were equally effective at documenting big game, capturing these two "opportunists" committing this crime. Their identity was revealed, and after the SLO Sheriff spoke with them, almost all the stolen property was returned to our wildlife refuge in short order, with our agreement to not press formal charges against them.

The SLO Deputy that I worked with deserves accolades for the time he and his department spent in pursuit of justice. Thank you Deputy McKenney and the SLO Sheriffs.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) needs your help out there! Visitors can be eyes alert for signs of misuse of the land, a special place that deserves our gentle stewardship to remain preserved as a vital and unique ecosystem.

I love to stop by and visit your wonderful little piece of heaven when I'm down there hunting quail. So glad to see you got the guys that ripped you off!!

I'll be sure to check it out when I'm down therein the fall.

Have you been seeing a better quail population this year with increased rain?

Hi Jim,
Not that I want to get the word out, but while I've heard about the plentiful years of Quail out there, have never seen many in the 7 years I've been active out there.
That is, until just recently.
I have wonderful pics and video of our beautiful CA Quail enjoying this little 400 gallon pond that I've been filling for over a year now and do plan to assess further the strength of their population, before deciding if I will hunt a few to feed my family.
Here is a great article about this very subject...

For now, the Rideout Hideout is off limits to active hunting and anyone captured in the cameras doing so will be caught and reported.
Visiting, camping out and taking pics is encouraged, but this is a now a sanctuary for the true natives of the Carrizo Plain and I will do all I can to keep it that way.
Let me know when you plan to head out there and I would love to meet you. Maybe even ask for a few hunting pointers.
Have you hunted wild pig out there?
Best regards,
Todd
