Maricopa is the closest/most accurate weather station for the hideout right now.
108F at 6pm today? Who wants to go help fill the pond? I have been studying tiny houses after the '51 Spartan experiment at the hideout.
This is just under the 120SF allowable "accessory building" SLO code without a building permit. Not sure yet if it'll be better than a tent, but will keep you posted. Too much fun to build in the middle of nowhere, while observing all of the amazing wildlife! The pond is full and the Palo Verde Trees are blooming once again😊 Thank you to all of our supporters! Bailey and I just spent a couple nights at the hideout and were thrilled to see the Pronghorn at Traver Ranch. Does anyone know what the current population is? Ray Ford, writing for the Noozhawk, just shared this write-up about the concern about Carrizo Plain's future...
Two years ago, I went out to the hideout with Andrew West to share the beauty of Carrizo. He and I just spent May Day there again to welcome our new 2500 Gallon water tank that will make my life a whole lot easier with tree and pond watering.
The wildflower show is just about over, but there are still tons of flowers if you look hard enough and the drainage stream beds are absolutely stunning to explore. Bailey and I went out to the Hideout Tuesday to explore the "super-bloom" that has put Carrizo in just about every news source lately.
I have never seen so many vehicles, tripods and cameras and people out there! Traffic on Soda Lake Road? We passed at least 100 cars, vans and campers on the way to the our little hideaway. Once there, not a single human visitor on the property. That's why we love it so! The Pink moon rose Tuesday night and we awoke to a magnificent sunrise Wednesday morning. Chris and I ran up for a quick check on the wildflowers and to retrieve the trail camera pics. Can anyone identify what specie this is? No major shows of wildflowers yet in the south end of the monument, but I think it's about to start in the next couple weeks. Stay tuned... What a great time this new-to Rideout Hideout crew had this weekend! It's always a great time seeing new-comers expressions throughout the weekend. With the repeated, "I can't believe this", "It's so peaceful", "we're in the middle of nowhere", and so on. It's truly a magical, tranquil place we're so fortunate to have access to. Byron, Robyn, Kail, Lori, Erik (Sophie) and Jon - I had a wonderful time with you all and hope to repeat this weekend again in the near future! Jon, have you thawed out yet? Meanwhile (as Jon's freezing on Friday night) Byrons loaded Campo Sprinter van is humming away with state of the art heating all through the night. If you haven't had the pleasure to see one of the Campo outfitted Sprinter vans, check them out - campovans.com. Erik, the well seasoned eagle-scout, great fires and great times, sir. I expect to see photos of you and your Westfalia the next time we get out there! Great times. |
